Don't Ever Call Yourself a Nice Guy

Would you say you're a "nice guy"?

Do you ever wonder why "nice guys finish last"?

Does it feel like people just take advantage of you because you're "too nice"?

Do you ponder if women really are attracted only to jerks?

10 Dangerous and Annoying Bad Habits of Some Drivers

On my way home today I got tailgated again. It comes as no surprise as I get tailgated almost daily, even multiple times on some days. I try to keep myself calm. It doesn't always work.

I have a somewhat competitive nature when I am driving - for some reason - as I think most people do if they are willing to admit it.

But, whether it calmed me down or just made me even more furious, I started thinking about some of the most frustrating bad habits many driver's possess.

I'd also recently read an article, Top 10 Most Annoying Things Other Drivers Do, on Yahoo!. I agree with some, but here's what I think...

Frustrated With Blogger But Not Even Blogging?

Despite the apparent popular opinion, Blogger is very customizable. You can customize your template with widgets, third-party tools, code snippets, and more.

It may be require a few more manual repairs, but it can be done and it's not as difficult as it originally sounded, for someone who was mostly a beginner.

However, difficult or not, it's still somewhat daunting. Also time-consuming, and frustrating. Oh, so frustrating at times.

Nevertheless, I plow through the frustration in search of widgets and tweaks to make my blog a little more like everyone else's. Slowly but surely, it's falling into place.

Casey Anthony (Mothers Who Kill Kids)

Casey Anthony is going to be released from jail today. She may already be released, who knows. It could've happened just after midnight, as many of the news stories are reporting.

I just read an article discussing the issues with the evidence presented in the case. It wasn't "proof beyond a reasonable doubt". What is a reasonable doubt anymore? To the jury's credit, they should've only had what was presented to them by the prosecution and by the defense. That might be the only saving grace, depending on what all was presented to them and what all was not. Some of the evidence, such as the hair in the trunk and even the presence of chloroform, was discredited by some. But even then, not completely discredited, just that it "shouldn't have been submitted as evidence".

Casey Anthony to be Released from Prison Sunday - Should She Go Into Hiding?

Casey Anthony is set to be released from prison this Sunday, July 17th. That would make roughly two weeks that she remained in prison since the trial and the "not guilty" verdict was given. As I said in my previous post, I am not one of these people out for blood. The entire story about Casey Anthony and Caylee Anthony angers me deep down, for reasons that are virtually unknown. I mean, yes it is a horrible tale of jealousy, resentment, greed, and contempt. But technically speaking, it has nothing to do with me.

Thrifty Traveler's Advantage - Scam?

Thrifty Car Rental - Blue Chip Membership
I am planning to travel, take a trip back home, in a few months. I have almost everything arranged except the rental car.

I called Thrifty Car Rental just a few days ago to ask a question about the shuttle service since I’d never had to use a shuttle service at a car rental before. The woman I initially talked to was a regular english speaking woman with no accent whatsoever and was generally helpful.

She invited me to save an additional so much for reserving my rental car over the phone. I wasn’t trying to place the reservation so I kind of avoided that topic. Before hanging up she said “You don’t want to be transferred to find out about the additional savings and $20 in free gas?”

Malawian Man Sentenced, Not Raptured, After Believing Harold Camping

A Malawian man has pleaded guilty to distribution of false documents after handing out pamphlets to warn people of the May 21, 2011 rapture - that never took place.

He, like so many others, shouldn't have put their beliefs in Harold Camping.

The Malawian man was originally arrested but released on bail, later given a 6-month suspended sentence after - surprise - May 21st, when he obviously wasn't raptured (just like everyone else).

According to the original story on France24.com, 34-year-old Saduki Mwambene (a bicycle repairman) now regrets having put his faith in Harold Camping, even conceding that he is "a false prophet".

Tracy Morgan's Homophobic Rant: When is a joke not a joke?

NewsOne.com
Personally? To me? A joke is always a joke as long as you volunteer to hear it.

That means, if you go to watch a comedian, it implies that you've entered into an agreement with said comedian that he or she is permitted to express their views and opinions using whatever language they please. That is implied even if they are one that seems to be rather well-known for pushing the envelope and being controversial. Otherwise, why would you pay to see them?

Enter Kevin Rogers.

It's the End of the World as We Know It? And I feel fine! (Harold Camping Predicts World End May 21st)

Just wanted to write "one last post" before the world "comes to an end"
No, I don't really buy that the rapture starts May 21st, or May 21st is "Judgement Day" or "Doomsday". But apparently a lot of people, like Harold Camping, do.

According to Camping, and those that apparently follow him, the end of the world is set to begin May 21st, 2011 with Judgment Day. The actual end of the world is scheduled to occur on October 21st, exactly 5 months from the supposed beginning. If you happen to read this today, the 21st, and wonder why the apocalypse hasn't begun - give it until 6pm.  According to Camping:"At about 6pm, he reckons 2 per cent of the world's population will be immediately 'raptured' to Heaven " But wait, is that Eastern time? Pacific? How will I know? Will people in Asia be raptured first? Wouldn't they already have been? Wouldn't we hear it on the news that thousands were disappearing in Asia and Europe as 6pm hit?

Food Pyramid - Low Carb vs Low Fat

It's a good thing I kept this blog as one for random thoughts, because it's drifting from comedy to politics and other garbage. This my be short though.

Through the past so many years, the Food Guide Pyramid (which I'll refer to as "FGP" from here on) has been a go-to dieting and nutrition staple highly promoted by the USDA and US government. It is on virtually every box of cereal as well as many other foods, and has been used as a reference over and over.

The focus on determining needs in basic food groups started around the 1950s-1960s according to LiveStrong.com (with origins of a food guide starting around the 1800s according to this site) with the creation of the USDA's original FGP in 1992. The original FGP stated that we should eat 6-11 servings of "bread, rice, cereal and pasta" (the "grain" group), followed by fruits and vegetables, then meat & dairy, then fats, oils, and sweets. Although this diet plan does emphasize lower-sugar, it is common knowledge that carbs turn into glucose (sugar) in the blood. The original FGP made no mention of whole-grains or fiber.

Why I Hate Twitter (and Microblogging in General)

I don't hate this bird, though.
So this post really has no meaning, other than to actually have something posted this year. Life is constant turmoil. As usual, we have to all just keep on truckin'! Easier said than done, yes, but necessary nevertheless.

I could write about some things but I never really intended this blog to be about my day to day occurrences. Frankly, if I wanted that I'd go to Twitter. And if I wanted Twitter - well, I don't. There is no if.

Since I really don't want a Twitter, I'll write about it instead, why I think it's stupid. I hate the idea of microblogging in general, but Twitter and Tumblr are the only specific microblogging sites by name that I know of off-hand, and Twitter is by far the most popular. According to Wikipedia, status updates (such as on Facebook) are considered part of microblogging too. I generally hate Facebook status updates for the same reason.

Kymaro Glamour Eyes - A Ridiculously Stupid Infomercial

They were originally $39.95 -
Now slashed to $19.95! Like, OMG!
"Are you tired of your short, limp, lousy lashes? Is your mascara just not cutting it anymore? Fed up with metal eyelash curlers that look like torture devices? Then you need Glamour Eyes!"

This is one of the most amazing infomercials I've ever seen. The Kymaro Glamour Eyes - Eyelash Extension Kit. The infomercial claims that "women everywhere now can improve the appearance of their eyes without makeup, creams, or surgery!"

In the infomercial, as well as on the site, there are before and after photos of women without and then with the fake lashes. Of course, the before photos include women wearing no makeup, and the afters include them wearing makeup as well as the lashes. Keep in mind I don't just mean eye makeup, I mean foundation, powder, the works. After all, they have to make the "before" shots look as washed out and dull as possible, right? One look at these women "before" and any man would cringe. "After", and obviously men will be drooling at their feet!
